School Summary
:
National, IB,US curricula.
500 students, 3-19 yrs.

The American School of Milan was established in 1962 as a non-profit independent, college preparatory day-school. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of NAIS. Although the medium of instruction is English, non-English speakers are accepted at the lower levels. The school is owned by the parents of the children enrolled, who constitute the Association, which annually elects a nine-member Board of Trustees.

Multiage programmes for Primary and Intermediate students honour individual differences, taking learners from where they are and allowing each child to make continuous progress. A wireless laptop programme is provided for all students from grade 6. The International Baccalaureate Programme is available. The school utilises the advantages of its location in a modern European city with historical ties. The secondary-level academic programme is college-preparatory, offering an extensive programme in mathematics, science, English and social studies plus a wide variety of electives including French and Italian. The student body is primarily composed of Americans and Italians but the presence of approximately 35 other nationalities creates an international atmosphere.

The American School of Milan has established a flexible and diverse activity programme in an effort to deal with the variety of student interest and backgrounds. Field trips of both historical and cultural interest are arranged in the Milan area. Week long field trips to points of interest in Italy and abroad are organised in the month of May for all children from the age of eight. There is a wide range of extra curricular activities which include inter-scholastic sports, music, drama, recreational activities, student council, National Honor Society, and various other opportunities.

The school is the office College Board and American College test centre for the Milan area.

The school is presently located in purpose-built facilities constructed in 1976, on the outskirts of Milan.
