310 students, 3-18 yrs.

The International School of Florence was founded in 1952 and is incorporated in the United States as American Schools Abroad Inc., a non-profit educational organization.

The program is based on an American curriculum but with consideration for transient students entering from or leaving for other educational systems. In the Junior and Middle schools, there is close contact with local Italian school programs. The Upper School program is college preparatory based on a US type of curriculum. The IB diploma program is offered to the highly motivated student. Students are given counselling in planning for university entrance.

Instruction is in English. Students may also study Italian and French. The school takes advantage of its setting in Florence to study history, art and architecture, and there are frequent field trips to places of interest in the surrounding area. There are elective courses in music, theatre, art, drama, journalism, computers, physical education and yearbook.

The school is accredited by ECIS and the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges.

The Junior School (Pre-School-Grade 5) is housed in a Renaissance villa in the Tuscan countryside. The property includes three large play areas, formal gardens, olive orchards and vineyards. It is a twenty-minute drive from the centre of Florence. Transportation can be arranged. Facilities include a large library, art studio, music room, Macintosh computer laboratory and a lunch room.

In September 2003, the school opened a second campus in a thirteenth century Florentine villa located in the heart of Florence. The middle and upper schools are housed in the new facility which contains a state-of-the-art library, computer room, three science laboratories, a lunch room with terrace and multiple classrooms. The address is: Middle & Upper School Campus, Villa Torri di Gattaia, Viuzzo di Gattaia 9, 50125 Florence.
