The Anglo- Italian
International School Montessori Division is an English speaking
school for children 2½ years old through Middle School, with an
advanced class up to 10th grade. Serving NATO community since 1958,
the school was the first international school in Naples and has
developed as an educationa1 service of intercultural cooperation
and spirit, in a beautiful and safe environment. The school overlooks
the Bay of Naples, Nisida and the isle of Capri.
The multi-cultural student body at the Montessori School
is comprised of dependent children of Senior NATO officers and diplomatic
personnel. There are also host nation Italian students whose parents
desire an English language education. All teachers are English mother
tongue, and classroom instruction is in English. Most of the teachers
are certified in the United States and in other English speaking
countries and many have advanced degrees. The school has a very
intensive ESL program for students who arrive with limited English
skills. The school follows an international and USA curriculum.
All of the textbooks at the Montessori School and educational materials
are from USA and other English speaking countries. International
cooperation and cultural exchange as well as foreign languages are
emphasized. Italian and other foreign languages are also taught
by mother tongue speakers. All students are multilingual when they
leave the school. The Montessori philosophy and instructional techniques
are emphasized to insure that each student reaches his/her full
potential. Information technology is also used in research and to
augment traditional instruction. The demanding curriculum provides
an excellent preparation for both classical and scientific follow-up
study. Although the main thrust is international in nature, the
school also endeavors to satisfy specific requirements of individual
national groups. A full range of extra curricular activities are
available including physical education, drama, art, music, computer
science classes including training in Microsoft Office and the Internet.
Classes meet from 08:30 to 15:15. Extended care is available before
and after school.
The school is affiliated with the Italian and American Montessori
Society (decree number 146) and is authorized by the Italian
Ministry of Education (decree number 3105/4). Admission is based
on entrance exams and interviews, previous performances, and the
student's ability to profit from the program.
